Lions of Little Rock by Kristin Levine is one of the Rebecca Caudill nominees this year. In 1958 Little Rock, Arkansas, painfully shy twelve-year-old Marlee sees her city and family divided over school integration, but her friendship with Liz, a new student, helps her find her voice and fight against racism.


After you’ve read this book, take a look at Little Rock Girl by Shelley Tougas,  one in the new series called  Captured History  Elizabeth Eckford was one of nine students to integrate Little Rock Central High School and is part of the famous photo taken on that day, along with another student screaming at her. Years later Counts took another picture of the same two girls, now grownup,  in front of Central High School.littlerockng
